Hider 2: Encrypt and Hide App Reviews

Like the way it works and appreciate the UI

I happily use Hider 2 because to me, it’s: • Simple and easy to use • Does exactly what I need it to (I just want a folder encrypted! I don’t need plausible deniability, or other fancy features) • Is fun (for me) to use (due mostly to the good UI) — backing up data — Encrypting your data makes it hard to break in to, but doesnt’ prevent it from getting deleted by mistake or corrupted due to bugs, computer issues, etc. It’s super-important to back your data up regularly! Every time my vault is edited **and after I have encrypted/‘hidden the vault again**, I run a backup of my vault to my external hard drive. After that, I also run a backup of the data on my EHDD to a cloud backup solution (in case my computer and external hdd are stolen, broken, fire/flood/etc). I personally use GetBackup for backing up to external hdd. Other options would be Crashplan (free for local backups!!), just copying the dang thing manually, or other programs.. google it! I’m too lazy right now and can’t think of another :) For online backup, I use Jungle Disk. Other options would be Carbonite, CrashPlan (especially if you’re using it for local backup already), BackBlaze, maybe even Mozy? If you were one of the ones who’s encountered trouble with the Hider 2 vault and didn’t have a backup, my heart goes out to you. Corruption/data loss is one of my greatest fears and I can imagine it was devastating for you. Please find a backup solution for your other data to save yourself from this kind of thing in the future, it will make a world of difference if anything like this happens again.

Hider2

Very happy with app and believe my files are protected.

Good, but not very good customer support

Hide r 2 is a perfect option for those looking to encrypt files. It uses an AES-256 bit encryption key and securely deletes the file of your hard drive when you put it in the vault. Then it writes the encrypted one to disk. Anyway, it works great. But their customer support is from any other country besides those who speak english as their primary language, so don’t expect to understand them well.

Dont ever re-install

I’ll keep this really simple. I had some inportant files in Hider 2 and when I needed to reinstall the app the program would not allow me to use the “vault” I had already created. Now all the files are useless. I do not reccomend anyone to use this app, until macpaw creates the ability to restore the files.

LOVE IT!

It is engineered and designed very well. I love using it and would definitely reccomend it!! Fist bump MacPaw!

Hider 2 Is Fantastic

This is the perfect app for securing confidential files. Great encryption and files are hidden from view. I just wish they had an iOS version that would facilitate cross platform synchronation of my confidential files.

Don’t bother

App hackable like any other mac purchases. And if you are already hacked, Hider is even that much easier to get broken into. NOTHING is completely safe on the web. Too late for me, I already bought the useless thing.

Lost files on External Drive

I now have a vault on an external drive containing information I need that can no longer be accessed. Hider crashes when the drive is connected but launches fine when it’s disconnected. I’ve contacted support but after a week, I still haven’t received a reply. Hider is a good concept, but it’s too risky for hiding things you really want to keep. If you’re okay with losing files that you hide, then it’s probably a great solution.

DO NOT BUY IT

i used then i had to format my computer so i backed up my hide 2 files after formating i tried to restore it worked using the old password but NO FILES DO NOT USE

Works great … easy to use

After a recent scare with a hacking incident on my computer I’ve started using Hider 2 and it’s easy to use and it works great. I just have one password that I need to remember, and everything else that is sensitive is kept under the security of Hider. When I need the file, I quickly pull it out of Hider’s "cloak of security”, use it, and then hide it again. Quick & easy. It’s a great comfort for me to have increased the security of the sensitive information on my home computer system.

Excelet application

I use this at work to hide customer sensitive information, It’s a good way to keep informaiton secure if my computer is ever stolen.

Rolling the dice with your data.

Hider 2 is a clean and intuitive application for having a simple data vault on your computer. It was simple to maintain files or notes of moderate sensativity (I wouldn’t use this for anything that was extremelly sensitive), and the application does keep your data relatively secure. However, in my experience, you’re rolling the dice with your data when using Hider 2. I had a vault on my primary HD, as well as an external hard drive. But after a few days of use, when I ejected the external drive, the application crashed. When I reentered the drive, it seemed to get my vaults confused, and noted my external drive vault as my primary - furthermore, when it said there were now no files/notes in the external drive vault and my (actual) primary vault was nowhere to be found. A time machine restore did recover the vault files, but oddly Hider 2 showed they were empty. In short, it was a great app when it worked, looked great and was easy to use. But when something went wrong, all my hidden data and notes were gone. So unforunately, I’m far too paranoid to try and use it for anything else again.

Horrible

From the original and through an update this app destroyed my data. developer has been unresponsive. what a waste of money and files!

Very new at using Hider 2 but so far so good.

I desperately needed a good place to store e-mails and other type documents on my computer where it was less likely that some one surfing around on my iMac could inadvertently open them up and cause embarrassment. I am now using Hider 2 and have secretly hidden away documents that I wish to keep but don’t want just anyone to have access to. Realistically, I know that a hacker worth his/her salt, could probably work around even this encryption and password protection. I concluded that if they wanted it that badly and would work that hard, maybe they needed it and might even learn something also. By the way, several friends have PC’s. Is there a PC version of Hider, and, if so, where can I find it? I have googled Hider for PC without results but maybe I am missing something here. Charlibart

Perhaps everything is hackable but Hider2 throws up a formidable roadblock

I bought Hider 2 a year ago of so and have used it periodically. I have had no problems using it on a Seagate portable drive. Having that added layer of security on a drive that I might lose or that might be compromised while on the move was the primary motivation for trying Hider. The software has met all my expectations. It is eaasy and quick to transfer files to and it is as easy to unhide them when needed. I haven’t put the program through any torture tests, but using it periodically for all types of files I have had zero problems. The negative reviews below from earlier this year seem vague and lacking in any detail that would allow me to evaluate their credibility. I have used the software cautiously but find it to works exactly as advertised.
