Hider 2: Encrypt and Hide App Reviews

Hi, I like this program but find it too slow when it comes to hiding and unhiding big folders. This is because of the encryption. In HIDER version 1, there was no encryption so it was immediate. Encryption is nice but it should be an option. Personnaly I would set it OFF. So PLEEEAAASE, add an option very quickly : Encryption ON/OFF Thanks Edit : I have asked this feature since October 2014. Today May 2015, nothing is done despite last response in January from the company saying they were working on it. I hope it is true and will be released soon.

I used to use the previous version, MacHider, and it was awesome! Fast, easy and simple… But the new version is very slow… I really don’t recommend! Eu costumava usar a versão anterior, Mac Hider, e era muito bom! Rápido, fácil e simples… Mas a nova versão é muito lenta!. Não recomendo!

Simply one of the most elegantly, secure and easy to use software I have used on the mac. It gives you the option to organize all of your files into categories. The notes option comes in very handy at times when you need to remember some security information.

„Hiding“ documents and folders works way faster now and the new design looks just amazing on OS X Yosemite ! Thank you for the best document encryption App on the market !!!

Very effective and easy to use App!!

The app is easy to use but has several sever shortcomings: It is not possible to encrypt individual files and folders with different passwords. You can store them in seperate „vaults“ but they all have the same password and they are all visible to everybody who knows the Hider 2 password on a specific computer. The vault (.hvault file) also cannot be copied to a different drive or computer. It take a very long time to encrypt large files. All in all this app is pretty much useless for me because I cannot generate different vaults for different people on the same net work drive which can be accessed by all computers connected to this drive. For its potential it is much too expensive. Since the vaults are not portable anyway, it does not matter much that there are no IOS or Windows versions of the app.

Do not buy it until they fix the major issue. I try to hide two important folder. One is totally disappearing in my computer and do not show on the Hider 2 display window. The other is totally unhiden and recovered. I lost all my valuable data now. Feel very angry and frustrated now

The new design is great, but I found the encryption takes a lot of space on my external hard drive. After freeing up over 100gigs it still would not hide the folder I wanted it to.

I was a user of machider. The migration did not work properly. It took a new version of there software they gave me and many hours to simply get my original files back. THe hiding process can take hours if you have large files. They never warn you about this. I will never use this again.

I was a user of MacHider, and it was a great app, doing what it said, so when when Hider 2 came out I thought I would upgade and see what the new features were. BAD Mistake, I “hid” a large folder >100 GB and it worked for a day or so then the “vault” became corrupted and it wouldn’t open. I of course contacted tech support, and to give them credit they were very resposnsive, sending me a new version which as first didn’t work, then after a a few emails, a few days and a few attpemts to unhide/unencrpty (each attept took > 10 hours) and going back and forth I was finally able to get the data back. LARGE Caveat of using this software, while having these issues I checked out the manual and it does say that to encrypt/decryot it may take as long as copying the data ! If I would have known that I would never have even used it in the first place (yes maybe I should have read the manual but really who reads the manaul for a simply utility) They may have fixed the bug, but afer that I can no longer trust the software. I really only wanted to to hide the folder from prying eyes I didn’t need to hide it (encrypt it) from the NSA! So I have since removed the software and would never use it again Sorry MacPaw, but this ones’s a big miss

love the UI and when you type in the password it has a neat animation where it shows the dial rotating, but really heavy on memory.. why?!..

The way this app works is by taking files form their source directory and moving them into Hider2’s secret happy place and encrypting them in the process. This is great for hiding some “sensitive” files on your computer but this isn’t fooling the RCMP any time soon. Encryption and decrpytion does take some time based on file size so that should be kept in mind if it’s a large file that needs to be accessed often. Basically, know what this software does and doesn’t do and if it works for your usage case BEFORE buying it so you aren’t left unhappy with your purchase.

I have lots of files on my computer with personnal customer informations. I always have my computer with me (or locked away) but in case I loose it or it gets stolen, I have everything under Hider 2. I use it everyday to access my customer files and so far (it’s been a few months now), it has worked...

I used Hider 2 during the day and at some point I updated and ever since my files are unencryptable !!!! Before you update make sure you bring all your files “out” before you run the new version ! I’m still trying to salvage my files !

I forget my password on Hider and then out of frustration I uninstalled it because there was nothing important on the hidden files. After couple of days I installed Hider2 and to my surprise it recovered all my old data WOW…. My folder was very small so it took only less then 30 sec. I do not know how it will work with large files.

not impressed….had supoort make me jump through hoops and still my data is lost…I DON’T Recommend!

It is working fine for me. I have not needed support and I feel I have more security for my sensitive files.

Hider 2 will be the only folder security that you will need.

Can’t rave enough about this application

I serioulsy don’t get those negative reviews. What’s not to like? Works flawlessly, does what it says it does, and with no hassle. I keep all my sensitive files in Hider and love it! And it’s FREE! What else could ya ask for?
